There are 26 types of Ability you can learn, but in fact, there are only 9 Essence Rune types.


But one Rune contains more than one ability for discovering.

Some people might know this already from an earlier post by Kru, but just this afternoon we received something special on our test server – the update for Cabal Online Episode Three: Soul and Sienna.

As I am closely involved with the testing process on ITS (Internal Test Server ) I will be using this blog to keep everyone up to date with exactly how the testing process is coming along. So to start with let me put this out there

If you prefer to discover new content on your own, then please stop reading. Seriously. I will try my very best to keep this informative and entertaining as we move closer and closer to the launch date, but inevitably there will be some spoilers. I should perhaps not say this, but one (just one, before everyone jumps on my back, wielding the whips) factor in determining the launch date is how quickly the tester team will be able to work our way through the new content.

Ok, we have the boring disclaimer out of the way now, so let us start on the more interesting parts. As with every test our very first step is deciphering the translated patch notes that we receive from ESTsoft. This is not always as easy as it sounds – let me give you a quick example:


14. Changed registration period of item on agent shop


That is it, just one of many exactly like it. We do not receive any sort of indication of exactly how it was changed, so of course we now need to figure out exactly what they meant. It could be easy and obvious, with some luck.

I just realised that no one reading this would be particularly interested in the update to item registration periods in the Auction House, or the testing thereof, so perhaps I should find a more exciting example. In no particular order then here would be the parts of the update that I am looking forwards to the most to test.



The Altar of Siena B1F Dungeon Instance

Requirement: Level 135, Battle Style level 11 or above
Entry Item: Siena’s Crest B1F (this weird pumpkin looking item drops in the Lakeside and higher maps)

Testing a new dungeon is always fun, at least for the very first couple of runs through it. My first thoughts, just by looking at the notes, are that this one has a starter location bang in the middle of the Entrita infestation. I really hope they have added a safe zone around the starting spot, otherwise getting your whole party there without any Death Penalties would be… interesting. It’s not a problem on ITS, but on the live server I suspect it might be a bit more challenging. The winning nation bonus will include a premium warp point to the entrance as well, which will save you a long, horrible walk to get there.

You see, we get no notes on exactly what is waiting in the dungeon. The first time we enter it’s completely blind, with no idea of what is coming. Of course, the testing team is quite experienced and we work together really well, but there is still that sense of anticipation and exploration as it starts.

I will keep on updating as we test the new content, and I will be posting screenshot as well. Of course there will be ‘SPOILER’ warnings, but if I know this community most people will ignore these.



The Soul Ability system

I am studying the patch notes at the moment, and it seems as if the Soul Ability will offer some interesting builds for characters above level 120. Soul Ability Experience (called Ability Experience, or AXP) can be earned by just killing mobs, or fighting in TG. The AXP you receive in TG will be calculated according to your personal score in there – I will include the notes on this in a later update to this blog.

AXP will then be converted to Ability Points, and Ability Points can then be used to equip items that are called Essence Runes. Interestingly enough, while the notes on AXP and AP are quite extensive, the actual information of where to find Essence Runes is not included. No doubt we will find out – here are the notes on Essence Runes:

Essence Rune is?
• Items used to learn passive skills or upgrade skills using AP and upgrade items such as cores.
• There are total of 26 Runes available. You can only equip or learn maximum of 13 Essence Runes or skills.
• Essence Runes are tradable items and already equipped or learned Runes can be removed.(Once the Rune is removed, it has to be learned again from LV. 1)
No, I am not sure what this means either, but I will find out – and I will post here as I find out more. So information such as droprate, or exactly how they are used on cores are still missing.

Well, that is it for this first post. You can see this as a bit of a teaser, but rest assured that I will keep everyone updated throughout the testing process.

We are pleased to release the latest developer’s notes for the next major content update, Soul and Siena. Please note these are ONLY developer’s notes and do not represent a completed (or full) set of patch notes. Many of the features can change and some may be cut prior to release on our version.

Currently there is NO ETA for this update. As soon as we are aware of the date the patch will go live you will be informed and we therefore ask (or rather beg) you do not create numerous threads or posts asking when this update will be released.

3. “Soul Ability” System

(1) Soul Ability System is?
- Ability EXP known as AXP can be earned along with EXPs. AXPs is converted to AP, and these points can be used to learn passive skills.
- AXP is a sort of EXP that will support the game play to be more exciting as character levels up. Earning AXPs is same as earning of EXPs. If 10K EXPs were earned from the mobs then AXP can be gained around 10K. However, different from EXP, AXP has a different conversion rate by levels.

(2) AXP is?
- New Ability EXP that can be gained just as the EXP.
- Not that AXPs can be gained instead of EXPs, it is an additional point system that is gained separately with EXP or Skill EXP. However, there is a minimum level requirement for it.
A. Minimum AXP Earning Requirement: Level 120
- From the fields, dungeons, and Mission Wars.
A. AXP from fields and dungeons
 Based by the calculation of EXP earning when attacking the mobs, AXP earnings are calculated.
 AXP Bonus is also valid with Premium Services. (AXP Bonus 25%)

 Earning AXP(EXP to AXP) conversion rate is different by levels.

B. AXP by Mission Wars
 It is calculated by personal scores.
(Destroying Structures, Guardians, Building Force Towers are not calculated separately to AXP for they are applied to the personal scores)
 1 Personal Score equals to 100,000 AXP
(If personal score is 100, then you are earned with 10,000,000 AXPs or 1 AP.
 It is calculated at the end of the Mission War. If character is not there at the time of the calculation, AXPs are not applied.
 WExp cannot be used to earn AXPs nor it cannot be earned with the WExp to EXP conversion.
- AXP Limitation

A. AXP cannot be earned if character AP exceeds 500.
- Note that EXP is something that is gained from attacking mobs and which is used to calculate the level up point. The higher levels the characters get, the total amount of EXP to level up increases which makes harder for characters to level up.
AXP is something that is earned as same amount as EXP but its total amount of AXP for AP conversion stays the same, but the conversion rate from EXP to AXP or the rate that characters earn from attacking mobs changes as the levels gets higher.

(3) AP is?
- The point that is converted from AXP when a certain amount AXP accumulates. It is a unit that is required for Soul Ability System.

- AP Conversion Details
A. 10,000,000 AXP equals to 1 AP. AXP returns back to 0 when converted to AP.

- AP Limitation
A. Up to 500 AP can be accumulated. (Expansion of its limit is planned in the future)

- AP already consumed to learn skills cannot be returned.

(4) Essence Rune is?
- Items used to learn passive skills or upgrade skills using AP and upgrade items such as cores.
- There are total of 26 Runes available. You can only equip or learn maximum of 13 Essence Runes or skills.

So, after a long silence (well, just more than a week ) I can now answer some of the recent questions. The big one being, of course, WHEN? Understandably everyone is eager for this update to hit the live server.

Well, first I have to say the following. Testing is still taking place, every day. We received our first ‘fix’ to for the Internal Test Server, and we are busy with checking everything again. Any update depends on many factors, so even if I can (and will) give you the proposed date that the update will come to live that should not be seen as final. We are working towards it, but you should be aware that if anything goes wrong that date can be pushed back.



So, going on what Kru has already said in another thread on the forum: At the moment we are pushing for the 16th of June to get this update on the live server. 13 days to go, to be exact. We really hope that everything gets the OK to go live on the 16th, and at the moment we are positive about this. But, please, bear in mind that if something goes wrong the update will get delayed. I feel like I am repeating myself here, but I really cannot stress that point enough We want it on the 16th, we are trying for the 16th, but if for some reason it does not happen then please keep the flames to the minimum




OK, now for some answers to questions that were posed in the comments on previous blog entries. Firstly, the capsule cubes that you will receive from the Mission War: there are no more core cubes. You receive the capsule cube in place of the core cube. Exactly the same rules apply, so if you received core cubes before, you will now receive capsule cubes. And, of course, the chance to make some Alz from them, if you do choose to sell a potion worth 100 million to an NPC.

Still on the Mission War, there is nothing in this update about builders using points to build instead of alz. The points were removed in part, I think, because people were abusing this function to just drop portable towers everywhere in order to gain score. You can see in the changes that the developers intend the Mission War to become, well, war, where you go to fight the players from the other nation and NOT spend all your time building little towers and wasting points from your nation for your personal score. The Mission War is, however, a constantly changing aspect of the game, because if you compare the current one with the very first version... So, who knows what the future holds for us

As for the AXP system ‘ruining’ the Mission War, to use a direct quote from the previous comments, I can just say: Don’t predict ruin too quickly. The game changes, but that does not mean it will become ruined. No update is ever final, so if something becomes apparent to not work it might well get changed again with a future update.



Someone asked about the ‘calculation of minimum damage’ and what that means. Once we get clarification from ESTsoft I will be able to answer that.




We are also trying to clear up an issue with the skins and the update. I can only echo what Caesar wrote in another thread: Please use the default UI when you download the update. Hopefully we will have some more info on this at a point closer to the update, but right now I can only urge you to not have a skin installed for the update.

Well, that’s about it for this minor blog update. I covered all the questions, I hope. Now we continue with the testing process (trust me, this means going through a very, very big checklist, writing reports, checking, rechecking... you get the idea ) and then hopefully we can get this update live on the 16th.
